• Q: Do you take Walk-Ins for Open Gyms or Tryouts?

  A: No Walk-Ins permitted.  Please register on the SMAQ website.

• Q: After tryouts, how do I know if my daughter got a contract offer or not?

  A: SMAQ emails all athletes, whether receiving a contract or not, the same day as tryouts.

• Q: How many players will be on each team?

  A: SMAQ never has more than 10 athletes on a team.

• Q: Is my daughter able to play up an age level?

  A: If you feel your child is up to playing at a higher age level, she may tryout for that age group.  We recommend trying out for your age group and at check in for tryouts notify the SMAQ staff that you request your daughter play at a higher age level.

• Q: If my daughter receives a contract, how long does she have to accept it?

  A: The OVR, as of 2023, is requiring 10 days to accept or deny a contract for all levels of contracts.  2023 is the first year that OVR is permitting summer tryouts.  Make-Ups Tryouts acceptance/denial deadline may be shorter.  Always refer to your contract email that you receive from SMAQ for official deadlines.

• Q: If my daughter accepts the offer, are we held responsible for the contract?

  A: Yes.  Our contracts are binding.  It is critical for our teams that all acceptances will be playing on that team.

• Q: Where can I find the club fee amounts?

  A: The club fees for every level will be listed on the SMAQ website.  These are subject to change yearly.

• Q: What is included with my club fee?

  A: 2 Jerseys, 1 Spandex, 1 Long Sleeve Shirt, 1 Practice T-Shirt, Practice/Court Fees, Tournament Entry Fees, Coaching Fees, Admin Fees.

• Q: How often will my daughters team practice?

  A: SMAQ teams practice twice a week for 1.5 hours.  American level teams and higher practice twice a week for 2 hours.  This is subject to change yearly.

• Q: Where are practices located?

  A: MAQ & MAQ Fieldhouse at 12359 Abbey Rd. Bldg A & B North Royalton, OH. 44133

• Q: How long is the SMAQ season?

  A:  Each team will practice a few random times in December.  Official practices will start the first week of January.  This is subject to change yearly.  Tournaments are randomly attended from January thru end of April/middle of May depending on the age.  If you are on an American Bid or National level team, your season may be longer if you end up receiving a Bid.

• Q: How many tournaments will my daughters team attend?

  A:  SMAQ teams will attend 8 tournaments total.  Normally 1-2 days long.  American Bid and higher-level teams may attend 3-day tournaments.

• Q: What is our tournament schedule?

  A: This varies team to team.  SMAQ admin cannot enter tournaments until they are listed on the AES website or sanctioned by the OVR.  All tournaments are normally finalized for each team by Christmas.

• Q: Are there any fees outside of the club fee?

  A: Athletes will also need an OVR Membership which is around $67 (subject to change per OVR).  Some teams may also require an AAU Membership which is around $14 (subject to change per AAU).  Instructions on how to obtain memberships will be provided following offer acceptance.  Food, transportation, and lodging for away tournaments is not included in your club fee. 

• Q: If my daughter is on an American Bid or National team and they qualify for a Bid, is there an additional fee?

  A: Yes.  If your team qualifies for a Bid in the middle of the summer, there will be an extra fee.  If this is the case, SMAQ staff will be in touch via email once the Bid is received.

• Q: Are there any lessons that SMAQ offers?

  A: SMAQ practices out of the MAQ facility.  They handle sport specific personal training lessons.  If interested in lessons, contact MAQ at 216-246-0424.

• Q: Does SMAQ offer in season training?

  A: In season training may be offered for American level teams and higher.  Days/Times change from year to year.
